Legal Weed in California Is Just Fine With Mexican Cartels

Legal Weed in California Is Just Fine With Mexican Cartels

Legal Weed in California Is Just Fine With Mexican CartelsCalifornia is all set to vote on Proposition 19, which would legalize possession and sale of small amounts of marijuana. Added bonus for free enterprise advocates: a new report says the Mexican drug cartels would barely even notice it.
The Rand Corp has studied the issue closely—probably by smoking marijuana! Haha!—and concluded that Prop 19 would "erase no more than 2% to 4% of the revenues" of the big Mexican drug cartels, because they'd still have the entire rest of the country to cater to with their convenient brown brick weed. But there may be a flaw in the study's logic:
The researchers said the only way California's legal pot could cut significantly into cartel revenues is if it were sold across the country. They were skeptical that would happen. "It's very hard to imagine that the feds would sit idly by and just let California marijuana dominate the country," Kilmer said.
These dudes don't know there's a Fedex store in Humboldt County.
