ADIDAS ORIGINALS SUEDE STAN SMITH 80S
If reinventing the classics is the metier of adidas Originals, these Stan Smiths are a prime example. The laces and heel tabs, suede instead of leather — those make up the conspicuous revisions. Look a bit more closely and you’ll detect subtler differences: speed hooks atop the eyestay accompanied by metal eyelets underneath. Contrast stitching to match the coloration around the three-stripe perforations. But you’ll also notice the traditional logo on the tongue is unchanged — a reminder that despite the retooling, the Stan Smith pedigree remains intact. ADIDAS ORIGINALS FOREST HILLS
Compelled by his perfectionism, adidas founder Adi Dassler concocted his first footwear at the young age of 20 in 1920. With a single goal in mind – to provide the best footwear for athletes in each of their respective sports, Dassler went on to become the a leading supplier in athletic footwear, providing for 11 different disciplines with 30 different models, all done in a decade’s time since that very first effort in his mother’s kitchen.
Never the one to falter against impossible odds, Dassler rebuilt his company out of the rubbles of Post-WWII Germany. Him, along with a workforce of only 48 employees, jump started the new company with an ingenious concept, the creation of light weight sports trainers from savaged canvas and rubber of American fuel tanks. This initial success had Dassler established the “adidas” label, a combination of his first and last name, in 1948. The now ubiquitous 3 Stripes insignia soon followed, transformed the company from the sleepy German township of Herzogenaurach, into a global trend setter.
Similar to the just introduced B-Sides Collection, the Archive Pack attributes adidas Originals’ successes to some of its most groundbreaking footwear, or in this case the Forest Hills. Named after a quiet hideaway in Queens, New York and former home of the U.S. Open Tennis Championship, the Forest Hills became an instant sensation with its bright yellow outsole. Whats more, its NASA designed ventilation system and other cutting edge technical elements made it the lightest tennis sneakers at the time, weighed in at only 250 grams. With the annual U.S. Open fast approaching, adidas Originals will once again make the Forest Hills available, as a celebration in not just innovation or adidas Originals heritage but Adi Dassler’s legacy as well.

Why Is Michael Dell Buying Up Bankrupt TV Stations?
Why is a tech billionaire, worth $14.6 billion at our last check, investing in the local TV market? Well, he’s not — at least not in the stations themselves. If recent speculation is to be believed, he’s investing in the airwaves.
Seattle Times tech blogger Brier Dudley broke the story of Dell’s involvement in a bidding war for KFFV. He thinks it’s most likely that the mogul’s company is making a “real estate play”, holding on to these relatively inexpensive stations until Congress approves a controversial FCC plan to auction off spectrum. In a nutshell, the government plans to buy back spectrum — or airwaves — from broadcasters and then auction them off to big telecoms outfits like AT&T, who will use the extra airspace for wireless networks for cell phones, iPads and the like.
Right now, Dell’s move is purely speculative. Legislation on incentive spectrum auctions has yet to make it past Congress. And worse, according to National Association of Broadcasters comms chief Dennis Wharton, there’s no guarantee that government will pay up once spectrum sales are complete.
“The risk involved for a speculative investor like Dell is that the payout they are expecting turns out to be an empty promise from the government,” he told FORBES.
Wharton said that he wasn’t aware of many small local TV stations being snapped up in speculative plays, adding that most of the approximately 1700 local outfits nationwide are affiliated with big national broadcasters like ABC, Fox or Univision. He said that the ad market has rebounded in the past year, with car ads back on the air and political ads expected to boost revenues in the run-up to 2012.
“We’ve seen very few broadcasters express an interest in returning their licenses,” he said. “Most have a legacy in the business and intend to stay.”
